Ekadashi September 2018 dates – Monthly Ekadasi Fasting for Lord Vishnu in September 2018

Monthly Ekadasi Fasting, dedicated to Lord Vishnu in Hindu religion, is observed on the eleventh day of a fortnight in a Hindu lunar calendar. Ekadashi dates in September 2018 are September 6 and September 20. Fasting from sunrise to next day morning sunrise is generally observed by many Hindus. Some observe the fast from the start time of Ekadasi Tithi and break the fast at the beginning of Dwadasi Tithi.

September 6 Ekadasi is known as Aja or Annanda or Jaya Ekadashi

The Ekadasi on September 20 is known as Parivartini Ekadasi. In some regions, it is also known as Jaljhulni Ekadasi.

The preparation for Ekadashi fasting begins on the Dasami day – the day before Ekadasi. On the Ekadasi day, devotees observe complete fast. The day is meant for hearing religious discourses and performing pujas.

There are also devotees who do not observe total fast. They avoid grains especially rice and consume fruits, nuts and milk.

The fasting ends on the Dwadashi day with the consuming of food cooked in one’s house.

Note – the fasting should end before Dwadasi tithi ends (before the 12th day of a fortnight ends as per traditional Hindu tithi calendar).

No rice item should be consumed during fasting.

Grains should be avoided.
