Magh Navratri 2018 dates

Magh Navratri, or Gupt Navaratri, is nine-days of prayers and rituals dedicated to Hindu Goddesses in the month of Magh (January – February). Magh Navratri 2018 dates are from January 18 and ends on January 26, 2018.  It is observed during Shukla Paksha or waxing phase of moon in Magha month. The nine days of prayers are dedicated to the various incarnations of Goddess Shakti.

The rituals and forms of Goddess Shakti worshipped during Magh Navaratri vary from region to region. In some regions, it is noted for a nine-day community worship of the nine forms of Shakti. The rituals are mainly observed in North India especially in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

Fasting is observed on certain days of Magha Navratri and strictly vegetarian food is consumed during the period.

Gupt Navratri is also observed during Shukla Paksha of Ashada (June – July).
