Shyamala Devi temple is located near the Mall on Bantony Hill in Shimla town. The town of Shimla gets its name from the Shyamala Devi temple. The temple is locally known as Kali Bari, as it enshrines the murtis of both Goddess Kali and Goddess Shyamala Devi.
The original murti of Shyamala Devi was 1.2 meter high but was later replaced by a smaller on from Jaipur.
The present temple was built around 150 years ago. Now the temple is a modern building with a marble courtyard.
Durga Puja is celebrated in the temple compound with great fervor by the Bengali community in Shimla.
