Amayannoor Mahadeva Temple – Ayarkunnam – Kottayam

Amayannoor Mahadeva temple is located at Ayarkunnam village in Kottayam district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Shiva. The Shivling worshipped in the temple is swayambhu or of divine appearance.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Goddess Bhadrakali and Ayyappa.

The temple has a circular sanctum sanctorum – vatta sreekovil. Puja is performed only two times on a day.

The important festival observed in the temple is Mahashivratri. A 8-day annual festival is also held in Kumbham month.

The temple belonged to the following Illams – Mannur, Chittamannur, Cherukutta, Kizhake Palanjadu and Padinjare Palanjadu. The temple was later transferred to Thekkemadom. The temple is now managed by the madom and a committee formed by the villagers.
