Kharuda Chauntra Temple In Chamba Town – Himachal Pradesh

Just between upper and lower terraces of Chamba town in Himachal Pradesh are Kharuda and Chauntra mohallas with a number of temples built under Raja Umed Singh in the mid 18th century CE.

These stone shikhara temples may have functioned as memorials to the rulers of the area. The walls of the temples have carvings of some of the kings themselves.

Unfortunately the temple are not well preserved; some suffered considerable damage during the 1905 earthquake, and the effects of natural corrosion are taking their toll.
