Bharathannoor Shiva Temple – Shivratri Festival

Bharathannoor Shiva temple, also known as Bharathannoor Mahadeva Kshetram, is located at Bharathannoor in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. Maha Shivratri is an important festival here and it is observed in Kumbha Masam (January – February). The temple is famous for a large pond known as Bharathannoor Mahadeva Ambala Kulam.

This is a small temple. A Shivling is worshipped in a vatta sreekovil – round sanctum sanctorum with a namaskara mandapam. There are shrines of Upa Devatas here.

The annual Shivratri festival is famous for procession, ezhunellippu of utsava murti atop caparisoned elephant and melam.

It is a historical temple situated near Palode forest area and is associated with Bharata, the brother of Sri Rama in the Ramayana.

The shrine observes Pradosham, Ramayana Masam and Thiruvathira in Dhanu Masam.
