Muthukulam Karunamuttam Mahadeva Temple – Festival

Muthukulam Karunamuttam Mahadeva temple is located at Muthukulam in Alappuzha district, Kerala. This is an ancient shrine dedicated to Shiva. The most important festival here is the annual Shivratri festival held in Malayalam Kumbha Masam (February – March).

The chatura sreekovil or square sanctum sanctorum has a Shivling. The shrine has a namaskara mandapam, upa devata shrines, a well-maintained pond and chuttambalam.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy and Nagaraja and Nagayakshi.

The annual Shivratri festival is noted for both tantric and vedic rituals. Abhisheka, Rudra homam and various other archanas and pujas are held on the day.

Monday is the most important day in a week. The shrine also observes fortnightly pradosham, Ramayana Masam (July – August) and Thiruvathira in Dhanu Masam.
